So many of you know my family spends at least every other week together for Sunday dinner, so tonight was no exception. We all piled in our cars and made the trip to LA to the
Ronald McDonald House to spend time with Danny, Sarah & the family. Well it turned into more of a party.
ALL the great news:
- Will is urinating 12 ml an hour (which is just right on for him!) So YES! This is a huge milestone, we are so excited. He HAS kidney function and it looks like it's only getting better. We still are waiting on the "P" or "PEE" party for when he is off dialysis. He will still need to do the dialysis because he is retaining to much fluid (Sarah explained how it is retaining in his cells, so the urine is not releasing enough of it, but its all very confusing, so I wont go into to much details). But she is thinking we should ALL start thinking about a PEE PARTY for WHEN Will gets home, we can all go to the Park, have a Potluck, Party, have Pizza, Plan and Perfect Place.
- YES, I said WHEN HE GETS HOME! For the first time since this whole ordeal began we all (including doctors and nurses) are feeling much more confident that he will fight through this whole thing and will recover (it still may be a huge and long process) but we all really have faith and feel more confident than ever.
- His white blood count is still high, BUT it is not going up. This means that the infection is NOT growing or expanding, but fighting. It was around 40, but now is in the 27-28 range and stabilizing.
- They took him off the breathing machine TODAY. He is still on oxygen (through his nose) but has lost a ton of equipment, which seems to have done wonders for his looks. He still looks sick and swollen and not great, but so much better with only about 4 tubes throughout his body (one central, or main line) vs the many different tubes.
- He also MAY make it out of the NICU (Intesive Care Unit) and move to the "regular" rooms THIS WEEK (That is our hope & goal). This is exciting and huge and we are REALLY looking forward to and praying for this move.
So it ended up being a party day.

Danny & Sarah were actually GLOWING! They are so positive & an amazing example of great faith & have such a solid foundation in overcoming the trials that come their way! We are all so proud of them! |
The Miyasaki Andersen, Takamoto Families came to volunteer and brought us yummy dinner, a raffle, and it was a fun get together for the first time really since this all started. Our family all decided what a great idea to PAY IT FORWARD someday ourselves, to come back to this Ronald McDonald Home to volunteer and help other families in the similar situations.

Danny won a lottery ticket (ha ha ha) some get that joke, but of course won no money. |

The kids won Henry's bags with school supplies, they put them to use immediately. |

So LONG TERM
, if all goes well, William will continue to mend (SLOWLY) and could undergo the second surgery in a couple of months and be fully recovered in 8-12 months. In the meantime he'll have his little bag (ostomy) which he's already succeeded in ripping off twice (nurses love that and have to give him a bath each time). And they are starting to try to wean him on some of his current medications. So hopefully his little body will continue to work hard and fight off all that is still happening.
We as a family have discussed how we feel it may not have originally been God's plan to allow Will to make it through this ordeal, but because of the MANY, MANY PRAYERS that have been said on his behalf (world wide), our Heavenly Father has said, "Well now we have to have a change of plan because this little guy has too many prayers and so much support it leaves me with no options!" :) We know God's will to be done in all our lives, but we are Eternally grateful that it sure looks like it is also aligned with our will for "OUR WILL"! It's been a blessing to see our family, friends, & community pull together in support of Will.
We still have a long road ahead, BUT it's looking like its getting paved and may be a little smoother here in the future. Thanks again for your continual support & prayers!
So sincerely happy and relieved for Will's progress. Hope all of the family can get a little sleep tonight.
